DEENS MODEL UNITED NATIONS
Letter from the Secretary General
Dear Delegates,

It is with immense pleasure and gratitude that I welcome you all to the 7th edition of Deens Model United Nations Conference, set to be held on the 23rd and 24th of August, this year.
There is a sense of pride that I take in introducing this conference as ‘The MUN with a Difference’. DMUN is known to be an extremely versatile conference, catering to delegates at all levels, from beginners to more seasoned ones. With our unique and thought-provoking agendas, and comforting atmosphere, we ensure that we make the 2 days of the conference leave a profound mark on the delegates as an unforgettable experience.
Ever since I started attending MUN conferences in 2019, I’ve always been enthralled by the sheer amount of knowledge and gravitas exhibited in them. That’s when I knew that to be guided in the right direction and influenced by the right minds, a Model UN is the ideal setting. The skillset it instills in you, within just two or three days is unparalleled, and my goal is to ensure that every delegate uses this opportunity to garner those talents.
More than anything however, I aim to build a sense of empathy and human connection among delegates. This goal is aptly reflected in the words of Antonio Guterres, "We have to bring the world together to deal with the problems that none of us can deal with on our own." A Model United Nations serves as a simulation of the real United Nations, and just as the delegates try to replicate the knowledge and political ideologies of their assigned portfolio, they must also strive to emulate the sentiment and humane nature of who they represent. Throughout the conference, the debate, discussion and deliberation should stem from the common goal of the greater good of humanity.
As we embark on this journey together, I would like to remind all of you that the real victory in a Model UN is participating. Just simply participating. The conference develops your communication and public speaking skills, argumentative skills, documentation skills and most importantly, your ability to empathize. It is with that thought that I wish you all the very best! To memories, learning and an amazing conference this year. To DMUN!
Sincerely yours,
Kaavya Kumanan
